ABOUT

My Practice

Reflective Insights is committed to supporting autistic adults in accordance with the neurodiversity model. “The term ‘neurodiversity’ describes the idea that, throughout the human population, different brain developments and structures exist. Neuronal variances, such as autism, are not seen as disorders but as variations, different from the neurotypical brain” (Garrett, 2021). Neurodiversity means that each person has a nervous system which is unique to them, with a unique set of needs, skills, and abilities (Singer, 2017).

According to O’ Neill (2020) there are over 77 million people in the world who are autistic, this equates to approximately 1% of the population. Here at Reflective Insights, Autism is not viewed as an illness, a disorder, or a list of deficits, rather, autism is seen in terms of diversity and strengths.

Meet Leone

My name is Leone Holden (MIAHIP). I am an Integrative psychotherapist (this means I use a combination of psychodynamic and humanistic approaches to therapy). I have a Master’s degree in Psychotherapy and a Higher Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am an accredited member of IAHIP The Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy and a member of ICP The Irish Council for Psychotherapy.

In my clinical practice, I specialise in working with diagnosed/self-identifying autistic adults. This is an area I feel passionate about. Prior to training as a psychotherapist, I worked for 18 years in Adult Disability Services.

I have recently completed a 6-month specialist training with AUsome Training (an autistic led organisation) to become a neurodiversity-affirming psychotherapist. A neurodiversity-affirming approach to therapy, is one that respects autistic client’s communication styles, sensory needs and promotes a positive autistic identity.
